To Change or Not To Change?

I have been trying to figure out if I want to change outfits during my engagement party. I love my gown but part of me wants to have a variety of photos for my engagement album. Since we are taking pictures in Pasadena an hour before our party, I thought that this may be a good time to sport a short cocktail number. On the other hand, I might miss the opportunity to get some great shots with my original gown. Another factor is that it is going to be difficult to find a short dress that will match my hair comb, jewelry, shoes, and overall theme. I researched articles on brides changing wedding dresses throughout their weddings and are here is some of the comments I found interesting.

I’m definitely a one-wedding-dress kind of girl.  In my opinion, this new phenomenon of buying multiple dresses is a great way for the bridal industry to bring in more money, but other than that it seems silly.  I do understand why Kaila bought a second dress, and she was smart about it: she bought it off the rack, left the tags on, didn’t get it altered, and was able to return it since she never put it on.

Despite the sagging economy, more brides — and not just celebrities — are buying and wearing two dresses for their wedding day. Harriette Rose Katz, a wedding planner in New York, said the practice has become practically ubiquitous among her clientele. Jung Lee of Fête, an event planning company, estimated that about 70 percent of the brides she sees are changing into a second dress, a figure that’s been on the rise for the last three years. In other parts of the world, the multi-dress wedding day is nothing new.

“In my personal opinion you should get one really great dress,” he said. “Find a dress, the ultimate dress, because there’s always going to be one dress you like more than the others. It’s like getting married. There’s only one guy.”

Unless there is a cultural reason for a wardrobe change (some people opt to wear traditional attire for either the ceremony or reception, then switch to a "regular" wedding gown for the other part), I find it to be rather wasteful
