Creating the Perfect Dessert Table

This post is dedicated to the art of creating the perfect dessert table. There are many elements that must be executed perfectly for the overall look to be absolutely amazing. Here is my step by step guide!

Step 1. Linen matters. Sure we are all guilty of using the party store plastic table cloths but I wouldn't go that route when planning your dessert table. Spend a little extra cash and rent a high quality linen. You can even buy one on amazon for a good price and it will make a huge statement. To really help the table pop try a linen with texture like velvet.

Step 2. Be creative. I'm all for the the typical goodies like cake pops and candy but why not try something new? Adding something fun and different will really wow your guests. I also suggest having a variety of options for guests to choose from to make it more exciting. Don't forget to provide Chinese take out boxes or little bags to let guests take some sweets home.

Step 3. Have height. Giving your desserts height will create more depth to your table. If you don't have cake stands you can get creative and try covering cardboard boxes with fabric or using pretty photo boxes. You can also cut up tree trunks for a more natural look or you can also use stacked books if that matches your theme. Candy jars also do a good job of creating height. Be sure to put the higher items towards the back of the display.

Step 4. Florals are fancy. You don't have to spend an arm and a leg on florals to get that fancy dessert table look but adding a few flowers to your table will definitely make a statement. You can go as simple as a few roses in bud vases or a mix of flowers in mason jars if your looking to save. If you have the money to spend on flowers I recommend trying to match your dessert table flowers to the centerpieces for a cohesive look.

Step 5. The main attraction. Ultimately the cake is the main attraction on the dessert table in most cases. Try to center the cake and not overcrowd the table so that the cake really shines. You can even add a pretty border to the cake stand you are using to make the stand pop against the others.

Step 6. Drop it like its hot. The backdrop of your dessert table will bring this baby home. You can have something as simple as a banner or balloon arch or you can hire a designer to create a custom backdrop for you. Regardless of the route you choose I really recommend having some type of backdrop for your beautiful dessert table.
