A Frugal Bride's Guide To Saving Money!

One of the biggest concerns of a bride-to-be is how to save money on her wedding. I am all for budget friendly weddings, the last thing a newly married couple needs is to be in debt! Here are a few tips that you might consider for your big day...

1. Having your wedding on a weeknight or on a Sunday is a great way to save some money. Since Saturday is the most popular day for a wedding, venues tend to hike up their prices.  Wedding season usually lasts from spring to the end of summer. Having your wedding from October to March can often get your better prices (imagine a winter wonderland theme wedding!)

2. Another option is to have an afternoon ceremony followed by hors d'oeuvres and cake cutting. Keep in mind that the reception takes up about 40-50% of your budget and this option will save you some major dough. Some churches even have a reception area that can be used at a minimal cost.

3.  I always recommend hiring a professional event planner to help plan your big day. What many brides don't realize is that hiring a professional can actually save them $$$. Established wedding planners have connections with vendors they work with often and they pass their discounts on to their clients.

4. Having a buffet can instantly save you money. You might also consider having guests pay for their own alcohol instead of an open bar.

5. How about sending electronic invitations instead the traditional paper invites? Not only will you save money on postage but you will also be green! Search the web for free sites that let you send out invites and also track your RSVPs.

6. Replace flowers with candles! Having candelabras, pillar candles, or glass vases with floating candles will save you major money (don't be afraid to mix and match). DIY centerpieces can be a great way to save money. You can purchase vases of different sizes from discount stores and fill them with a few flowers and floating candles.

7. Get creative with your wedding, if you are having a vintage theme consider having stacks of old books as your centerpieces. Another affordable centerpiece is a framed pictures of your engagement shoot on each table! DIY favors are also a great way to save a little cash. You can place the favors on a cake stand and VOILA you have a centerpiece!

8. A simple way to save money is to hire a hairstylist/makeup artist that is still gaining industry experience. You can make sure they know what they are doing by having a hair and makeup trail prior to your wedding. Ask around and you will definitely be able to find a talented person that is half the cost! (Most stylist/makeup artists charge double for brides, not mentioning it is your wedding can save you a lot of money as well.)

9. Hiring a DJ instead of a live band can help keep a few extra bucks in your wallet!

10. Hiring one company to do your wedding video, wedding photos, and engagement shoot can save you a lot of money. Companies usually offer great packages!

Stay tuned for more ideas, tips, and advice! Blissful planning to you all!
